Global production of plastics grew from around 1.5 million tonnes in 1950 to 311 million tonnes in 2014. In that same year, more than 6.5 million tonnes was collected for recycling in Europe, Ton Emans told the recent Plastics Recyclers Europe congress. ‘Nearly 65% of this waste is packaging,’ he pointed out to delegates.
