Developed countries are shifting more and more toward plastic packaging, which poses a challenge for the paper industry. Also, the amount of paper used for recycling in Europe fell by 0.3% in 2016 compared to 2015, according to the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI). Its members utilised an estimated 43.2 million tonnes.
